Convert HEIC (iPhone) photos to JPG format

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Format) is the default image format used on iPhones. It saves space while keeping high quality, but many systems and programs can’t open HEIC files without conversion.

On your iPhone, you can also set the camera to save new photos as JPG (Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible). (This affects new photos only.)

If your files are already saved to iCloud, you may want to save them directly in JPG format from there. See PLS Helpdesk - Download JPG format files from iCloud - Knowledge base

Download the HEIC Converter

We recommend using the HEIC Converter by 3AM Apps from the Microsoft Store.
The free version allows conversion of up to three images at once.

Follow the link below and click "View in Store"

Click "Get" in the Microsoft Store window. Give it a minute, and the "Get" button will change to "Open".

The converter may now be found by searching "HEIC" in the Windows Start menu.

You may want to pin it to your start menu or taskbar if converting images is a frequent task.

Using the Converter

By default, converted images are saved in the same folder as the original HEIC file. See the next section to change where converted files are saved.

Drag and drop your files from File Explorer into this window.
Click "Convert" and it will take just a moment to process them. Completion is indicated by a green check mark. You can click the file icon next to the checkmark to open the location of the converted image.

Change where converted images are saved

To change the location where converted files are saved, click the Settings (gear icon) button, and click the Folder Select button, highlighted below:

Navigate to the folder you want the converted images saved to, then click "Select Folder":
